"Both" es una palabra inglesa que significa "ambos", "ambas", "los dos", "las dos" y es usada en el sentido positivo para indicar que dos sujetos verifican algo.
Las estructuras con el uso de "Both" son las siguientes:
1. Both + sustantivo en plural.
a) Both people are studying English.
Las dos personas están estudiando inglés.
b) Both cars run fast.
Ambos carros corren rápido.
c) Both keys open the same door.
Ambas llaves abren la misma puerta.
2. Both of + pronombre objeto del plural (us, you, them).
a) Both of us are picnicking in the park.
Nosotros dos estamos haciendo picnic en el parque.
b) Both of you applied my teachings.
Ustedes dos aplicaron mis enseñanzas.
c) Both of them always go to the beach on Sundays.
Ellos dos siempre van a la playa los domingos.
3. Both of + the + sustantivo contable en plural.
a) Both of the houses are located on the peninsula.
Las dos casas están localizadas en la península.
b) Both of the lions are sick.
Los dos leones están enfermos.
c) Both of the universities teach mathematics.
Ambas universidades dictan matemática.
4. Both of + adjetivo posesivo
a) Both of his children are in the school.
Sus dos hijos están en la escuela.
b) Both of their dogs are doberman.
Sus dos perros son doberman.
c) Both of my sisters attended to the marathon.
Mis dos hermanas asistieron al maratón.
5. Be + both (Both siempre va después de be)
a) We are both celebrating our birthday.
Nosotros dos estamos cumpliendo años.
b) They are both in Paris.
Ellos dos están en París.
c) Carlos and you were both doing the homework.
Carlos y tú estaban ambos haciendo la tarea.
6. Both + verbo principal (Both siempre va antes de un verbo no auxiliar)
a) They both walk together to school everyday.
Ellos dos caminan juntos a la escuela todos los días.
b) We both know how much the watch costs.
Nosotros dos sabemos cuánto cuesta el reloj.
c) You both buy fruits at the same grocery every weekend.
Ustedes dos compran frutas en la misma tienda cada fin de semana.
7. Both + sujeto 1 + and + sujeto 2
a) Both you and I are the best students at the university.
Tanto tú como yo somos los mejores estudiantes en la universidad.
b) Both your car and mine won the competition.
Tanto tu carro como el mío ganaron la competencia.
c) Both my sister and your brother are married each other.
Tanto mi hermana como tu hermano están casados . (Con ellos mismos)
8. Pronombre objeto del plural (us, you, them) + both.
a) Pam and Julia are my daughters. I love them both.
Pam y Julia son mis hijas. Las amo a las dos.
b) I found Mark and Ariday walking along the road. I took them both to the Eiffel tower.
Encontré a Mark y a Ariday caminando por la carretera. Los llevé a los dos a la torre Eiffel.
c) Mom! We are hungry! Feed us both!
¡Mamá! ¡Tenemos hambre! ¡Aliméntanos a los dos!
