MUCH/MANY/A LOT OF Y HOW MUCH/HOW MANY

En inglés, el uso de much, many, a lot of, how much y how many depende de si el sustantivo es contable o incontable. Este tema es clave para hablar sobre cantidades y es fundamental comprender cómo usarlos correctamente en diferentes contextos. A continuación, vamos a explorar cómo y cuándo se usa cada uno.

Use of Many

Se utiliza many con sustantivos contables (es decir, aquellos que podemos contar individualmente). Se usa para hablar de una cantidad grande de algo o en preguntas y oraciones negativas.

Estructura:

many + contable

Ejemplos:

     ¿Cuántas duraznos quieres comprar?

2. I don’t have many grapes.
     No tengo muchas uvas.

     Hay muchas fresas sobre la mesa.

Use of Much

Se utiliza much con sustantivos incontables (es decir, aquellos que no podemos contar individualmente). Es común en oraciones negativas y preguntas.

Estructura:

much + incontable

Ejemplos:

     ¿Cuánta leche necesitas?

2. I don’t have much oil at home.
     No tengo mucho aceite en casa.

3. There is much honey in the jar.
     Hay mucha miel en el tarro.

How Much

Se usa how much para hacer preguntas sobre cantidades de sustantivos incontables. Pregunta por una cantidad específica de algo que no se puede contar.

Estructura:

How much + incontable

Ejemplos:

     ¿Cuánto harina quieres?

2. How much wine do you need for the recipe?
     ¿Cuánto vino necesitas para la receta?

3. How much oil is left in the bottle?
     ¿Cuánto aceite queda en la botella?

How Many

Se usa how many para hacer preguntas sobre cantidades de sustantivos contables. Pregunta por una cantidad específica de algo que sí se puede contar.

Estructura:

How many + contable (plural)

Ejemplos:

     ¿Cuántas mandarinas hay en la cesta?

2. How many plums did you buy?
     ¿Cuántas ciruelas compraste?
