PASADO CONTINUO (INCLUYENDO LAS CLÁUSULAS "WHEN")

Estructura:

Subject + was/were + verbing + complement

Ejemplos:

                                          AG.7.2.2

1. We were taking pictures of the mummy.
Estábamos tomando fotos de la momia.

2. They were exploring the temple during the trip.

3. I was reading the hieroglyphics at the tomb.
Estaba leyendo los jeroglíficos en la tumba.

Negative

En las oraciones negativas del pasado continuo, usamos "was not" o "were not" (que se puede contraer a "wasn't" o "weren't"), seguido del verbo en su forma base más "-ing".

Estructura:

Subject + was/were + not + verbing + complement

Ejemplos:

                                          AG.7.2.3

1. We weren't visiting the pyramid at that moment.

2. They weren't taking pictures of the obelisk.
Ellos no estaban tomando fotos del obelisco.

3. I wasn't exploring the tomb during the afternoon.

Yes/no questions

Estructura:

Was/Were + subject + verbing?

Ejemplos:

                                          AG.7.2.4

1. Was he visiting the sphinx?
     ¿Estaba él visitando la esfinge?

2. Were they studying the hieroglyphics near the temple?

3. Were you taking pictures of the mummy at the tomb?

Wh-questions

Las preguntas con palabras Wh (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) en pasado continuo siguen la misma estructura que las preguntas de sí/no, pero con una palabra interrogativa al principio de la oración.

Estructura:

Wh-word + was/were + subject + verbing?

Ejemplos:

                                          AG.7.2.5

1. Where were you looking at the sphinx?
     ¿Dónde estabas mirando la esfinge?

2. What were they doing at the pyramid?
¿Qué estaban haciendo en la pirámide?

3. Why was she studying the hieroglyphics at the temple?

Past continuous with "When" clauses

Estructura:

Subject + was/were + verbing + when + subject + verb (in past simple)

Ejemplos:

                                          AG.7.2.6

1. We were taking pictures of the mummy when the guide arrived.

2. I was reading the hieroglyphics when I found a mistake.
